About

Meet your maker.

Discover the people, passion, and stories behind every creation.

Most marketplaces put the object first and the person who made it in the small print — a name under a photograph, if it appears at all. Maker & Story is built the other way round. The maker is the subject. The product is the evidence.

Why the maker comes first

When you buy something handmade, you are buying someone’s time, judgement and practice. That is worth knowing about. So every product here is attached to a real person with a real workshop and a real story — and you can always get from the thing to the person who made it in a single step.

It is a small design decision with a large consequence: it means you never have to wonder who you are actually buying from.

How it works

Makers create their own storefront, tell their own story in their own words, and list their own work. They set their own prices and their own shipping. When you order, you’re buying from that maker directly — Maker & Story is where you find each other, not a middleman who takes over the relationship.

You can browse by product if you know what you’re looking for, or start with the makers themselves and see where their work takes you. The map is there for the same reason the stories are: craft comes from somewhere, and that’s worth seeing.

What we care about

  • Discovery over search. Finding something you weren’t looking for is part of the pleasure.
  • The person, not the metadata. A maker is never a byline under a product.
  • Plain dealing. Clear prices, clear shipping, clear answers about what happens to your information.

Are you a maker?

If you make things by hand and you’d like somewhere that leads with your story rather than burying it, you can create a maker account and build your storefront.

Questions

The Help page covers how ordering, accounts and maker storefronts work. If you need to reach a person, the Contact page explains the best way depending on what you need.
