Wedding season never really ends. Hard maple because it's the standard for a reason — tight grain, closes back up around a knife cut, and it won't dull a good blade the way bamboo will. Three quarters of an inch thick so it sits flat and doesn't skate around on a counter.
Hard maple, food-safe mineral oil and beeswax
Engraved before finishing so the oil settles into the cut and darkens it slightly, which is what makes the lettering readable years later instead of fading out. You approve a proof image before I touch the wood.
Hand wash only, dry standing on edge. Re-oil every month or two — when water stops beading on the surface, it's asking. Never put it in a dishwasher; it will split and that isn't a warranty problem, that's physics.
