The object
Six pounds of merino roving and about three hours of knitting it over my own forearms, which looks ridiculous and is the only way to get loops this size. Merino is the reason this is warm without being heavy — it traps air rather than adding weight, so it drapes instead of pinning you to the couch.

Process
Arm knitted rather than needle knitted, because no needle makes a loop this big. Unspun roving is fragile while you work it and forgiving once it's set, so the whole thing has to be finished in one sitting.

Care instructions
Spot clean with cool water and a little wool wash. Do not machine wash, ever — unspun merino felts on contact with agitation and you will end up with a very expensive placemat.
